Associate Agreements

 

IMPORTANT

WORKING OWNERS AND NON-BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEES

 

Hours and contributions for working owners or employees who are NOT in the bargaining unit cannot be reported on the bargaining unit contribution report forms.  An employer must apply for an Associate Agreement to cover working owners or non-bargaining unit employees. Special rules apply and the Associate Agreement must be approved in advance and signed by the Board of Trustees prior to any hours being reported.

 

Associate Agreements are intended for employees who move from the bargaining unit to becoming a working owner; or, employees who move from the bargaining unit to a non-bargaining unit position, for example a bargaining unit member becoming a superintendent, estimator, safety officer or manager.

 

There are two types of Associate Agreements and they both require that the employer is signatory to a full compliance collective bargaining agreement and that the owner or former bargaining unit employee be “bargaining alumni”.  That is defined as “an employee must have been previously covered by a collective bargaining agreement requiring contributions to the Western Washington Laborers-Employers Pension Trust or the Washington Idaho Laborers-Employers Pension Trust AND be vested before commencing Associate participation.
